I’ve always wanted to try a tasting menu at a Michelin star restaurant just as a one-off for the experience.

Wondered whether anyone can recommend any vegetarian/vegan tasting menus (preferably either in Manchester or London). Would like to stay as close to £100 as possible but willing to spend up to £200. No real preference when it comes to the type of cuisine but I suppose some variety would be nice. Would be nice if it included wine pairing but I don’t know if that’s achievable within my budget?

I’m a complete novice when it comes to fine dining so I wouldn’t even know where to start!

  1. For specific questions about Manchester, you can also visit /r/Manchester!

  2. In London, I would recommend City Social, Murano or Hide. They all have vegetarian menus which I enjoyed, and the first two have flexible menus so you can choose how many dishes you want. You could probably get some form of pairing within or around £200 on that basis. For Hide I would choose Hide above (there are three floors but the top floor has the tasting menu – Hide below is a nice bar if you’d like a drink first).

  3. Yes I’ve done the one at Alchemilla in Nottingham ( M *) – it was an absurd amount of money….and worth every penny.

  4. I have at a restaurant called Vanderlyle in Cambridge. Didn’t even know it was vegetarian when I booked, and didn’t really notice whilst having it. Only noticed it the second time going with a friend who pointed it out. I think it’s around £75/head, wine pairing was another £40.

  5. Indigo at One Aldwych in Covent Garden has one. £90 without wine, £140 with wine. The food is excellent and seasonal.

  6. I’d recommend the plant based tasting menu at Pied a Terre in London. Theyve held a Michelin star for 25 years and (I think, from memory) they were the first Michelin starred restaurant in the UK to offer a full plant based tasting menu.

110 quid for 10 courses last time I visited, have been several times, service impeccable and food excellent

  7. Opheem in Birmingham is excellent if you like Indian food (not curries). Most of it is veggie anyway but they do a fully vegetarian tasting menu too.

You aren’t getting a wine pairing and tasting menu for £100, maybe £200 but you’ll be limiting your choices.

  8. Had the vegan tasting menu at no 12 in Nottingham, complete with wine pairing, for my thirtieth. Highly recommend it, everything was delicious and staff were lovely and attentive.

  9. Greenhouse in London is two Michelin starred and has done vegetarian tasting menus before it was fashionable. Amazing high end stuff if that’s your budget and your thing.
Can’t properly look at the website right now but quick google suggests £100 per person but bear in mind that may not include wine and service.

More widely the rise of various food requirements and tolerances means that pretty much every top tier restaurant can now make adjustments if you call ahead – maybe avoiding specialist steak or fish restaurants. So don’t feel too restricted by what you see in the menus – choose based on the feel you get from the restaurant and the price range, and then put in a call or email.
Also remember you may need to book a month or two in advance.
    Good luck and enjoy!

  10. For a low cost tasting menu, six by nico is worth a try not Michelin but some great flavours and they change it every 6 weeks or so.

  11. Most places will do a vegetarian version of their tasting menu.

For my 30th, my Wife (vegetarian) and I went to Gordon Ramsay’s in London. I had the tasting menu, wife had veggie one, not an issue. About £130, IIRC.

  12. If you’d be willing to travel to the East Midlands I can highly recommend Johns House in Mountsorrel. The best fine dining restaurant I’ve ever experienced. Didn’t have the vegetarian menu in the end but almost chose it. Great experience from start to finish

  13. Have a look at Land in Birmingham, they’re fully.plant based and do amazing tasting menus below £100.
