Are times seriously bad and grave these days? Or are we just being paranoid?

Is it any different today or is it just the history repeats thing? Being in my early 20s I see no hope in future. I consider myself as a doomer. Another question, Does any of you guys feel that you've wasted your 20s and 30s being a doomer?
