There’s this girl I see regularly through mutual friends. For the last 4+ months she’s been staring at me a lot. Multiple times every time we’re in the same space. She holds eye contact for a few seconds when I catch her, then looks away fast like she got caught. She fidgets with her hair when I’m nearby and always chooses to sit right in front of me when she could easily sit farther back with her family.
Her brother (who’s actually my friend) has been dropping hints for a while — stuff like her wanting to drive my car, offering to let me drive hers, and saying she’d make time to hang out because she can call out from work.
Recently we actually talked more. She came up to me, we bantered back and forth, she tried to play a little hand game with me . I didnt do anything back, so she roasted me and said she’s gonna call me Tomato. Then her dad walked over right in front of me, handed her the keys and said “go sit in the car so you stop following me around like a puppy dog.” It felt like he was lowkey joking about her hovering near me.
The eye contact has been really intense at times. Feels like we’re both doing it.
One thing I noticed though: when I brought my friends around last time, she seemed annoyed and went to sit in the corner. She was still nice to me, but the vibe definitely changed. I think she wanted it to be more lowkey.
Problem is: I still don’t have her number. I’ve had multiple chances to ask but I freeze every time. I really don’t want to go through her brother because I don’t want him in the middle of everything.
Next time I see her I’m thinking of just walking up and saying “Hey, can I get your number?” but I’m nervous I’ll freeze again or it’ll be awkward.
Am I overthinking this? Should I just go for it next time? Any advice from people who’ve been in similar shy mutual crush situations where one person keeps freezing on making the move
