My (33F) boyfriend (32M) is constantly complimenting others (of all genders). He tells men he likes thier hats or jackets. And he tells women he likes thier blouses and purses. I think he is somewhat into fashion, but he doesn't wear women's clothes or purses. That doesn't mean he can't appreciate them, but a lot of the time the women's items he compliments will not be something overly fashionable, eg a plain black purse, a frumpy floral shirt he wouldn't like normally.
I think he's just trying to make conversation or just be nice or get a smile/break ice. He's always done it. I think i just noticed more this weekend because he complimented our restarant server, a girl's hair, and told 2 different women "nice blouse" with a big smile, it was offputting, and it just seemed like he hasnt complimented a lot of men lately. There was another woman this weekend that was absolutely gorgeous, outfit, body, hair… he walked ahead of me a bit faster to catch up to her and tell her she looked great. I didn't register in the moment, but thinking about it now, I didn't like that.
I don't assume he's doing this for nefarious reasons like flirting, but i wonder how it comes across to the women. And it just feels unnessacary to compliment every women that we come in contact with. Women look great all the time. They don't need him to be the one to tell them.
I just realized that he also does this when we watch tv. He tells me that the women have "nice tops." So this shows that maybe he just like womens clothes. Idk.
Yes, he compliments my clothes too and he compliments how i look in the clothes which is different than how he talks to/about random women.
I don't think im really super jealous (maybe a little sometimes) because I trust him and know his heart. I just feel weird about it. I feel a bit miffed. I feel like it comes across weird when my bf compliments other women when I'm standing right there.
