We currently live in our ‘foot on the ladder’ home in south wales, 10 mins from the beach with a decent sized garden. Has a surprise baby who is now just over 2.

We’re considering finding a home we want our child to grow up in. We both grew up by the beach in Devon, and always thought we would want to live within walking distance. However, our heads are being turned to more rural properties with more land and countryside vibes (think smallholding).

Now we are totally stuck on where to look. We love the beach (we are surfers) and the idea of being able to walk to everything we need for convenience. Equally, the houses at the nearest beach town are small with tiny gardens for the same price we could buy land elsewhere, and outdoor space and gardening is important to us. There are both types of property within commutable distance for jobs etc. Anyone with this dilemma past or present willing to weigh in?

TLDR; should we raise our young family at the beach in a small house with small garden, or rural smallholding with land in the countryside?
