I (40's M) have a female colleague that I have lunch with regularly. Why this colleague? Our schedules, created by my manager, often align. To repeat, I don't have full control over my working hours. This colleague and I just talk business. She's married, I'm married, there's nothing inappropriate at all.
My wife (40's F) flipped out and yelled at me about how much she didn't like that at all and she wanted me to stop.
I pointed out that she ALWAYS has lunch with the same male colleague everyday. (Unless they're hooking up during lunch, she's not cheating. And if she is? We'd be done). I said that it was hypocritical to be angry about my lunches when she was spending even MORE time with her colleague.
She paused, and said "I don't care. He's the only person I get along with at work. I don't want you having lunches with her."
Due to the hypocrisy, I still continue to have lunch with my female colleague and I let her get upset and I continue to not care. However, the yelling upsets our child so I am thinking to capitulate just for the sake of peace.
Any advice?
