i've come to accept that silences in conversations are natural and not an awkward thing you should avoid at all costs. but i'm not so sure what to do exactly during these silences… if you're facing the person directly, do you just look away, or look around? does your expression change if you were (for example) just telling a joke before that? it feels a lot more simple if you're doing something on top of talking (eg taking a stroll together), since you can just focus on the other objective at hand. but if the main objective at hand is literally just standing and talking, i'm not so sure how to exhibit myself during silent moments
