My mum had a difficult and abusive childhood, some of which is documented in her medical notes at her GP surgery. She has requested all her notes up until she turned 18. She was in contact with a medical secretary who gave my mum a SAR form to fill out, which she did. A doctor left a voicemail for my mum asking to speak with her regarding the records request. She has a phone call on Wednesday. We are just wondering why the doctor might want to call her about it? It’s causing my mum some anxiety. Just wondering if anyone has some insight?

Possibly relevant backstory:

My mum has requested her notes before (around 15 years ago). She was told because her parents (the abusers) names were in my mums medical notes, that they couldn’t release them to my mum without her parents’ permission. Her parents did give permission and she did obtain a copy of her notes which has since been lost.

We were wondering if the reason the doctor wants to call her now is because they need her parents’ permission again? But surely as it’s my mum’s record she has the right to see them no matter what? We also wondered if it’s a safeguarding thing, as in the doctor may be worried my mum will become distressed by what she sees in the notes. However my mum did include in the original records request that she has had the notes before so they should be aware she already knows the contents.

Thanks in advance for your help!
