It feels like in bars the bartenders complain if people don't order any drinks, or just one, but then stay a long time. Like in a cafe one coffee can get you 4 hours guilt free, probably more.

But in a bar if you close your tab and finish your drink it feels like your times up and you have to leave, unless you're socializing.

Is this kind of a new thing of the times, where we live with high costs and subscription models, or could you chill and play cards and just hang out more freely in bars 30-60 years ago?
