  1. There’s so much AI generated content online about the Iran war and Epstein on Instagram these days. There was a crazy animation where flying carpets with soldiers on them were battling F-35s, and an AI generated derivative of the (probably) AI generated song “We are Charlie Kirk” whose title is “we are Jeffery Epstein.”

I wonder what would Instagram look like in the 1940s if it were available.

  2. Dang, I think my OS is broken beyond repair. I cannot access an ISO to burn a windows boot until Monday. I regret using Manjaro in the first place.

  3. Nasreddin Hodja is a hero of humorous short stories and satirical anecdotes found in many cultures, including Turkey. There are thousands of short stories featuring him, most of which have a pedagogic nature and subtle wit. In one of those stories, the Hodja falls from a roof. People flock around him and ask if he’s okay, if they should fetch a doctor, and he says, no, I don’t want a doctor. Find me someone who’s also fallen from a roof.

So, after reading No Longer Human, and feeling so much worse for it, my husband asked me if I wanted to talk about the book. But I needed to find someone who’s also read the book. Luckily, I have a friend who’s also read it and she sent me a hug emoji when I said I read it. We talked about it for a while and it felt really good.

Yesterday I went to a modern art museum with a friend and former colleague. He’s a German guy who’s like 15 years older than me (and missed the memo that Germans don’t make friends after a certain age). There were several big exhibits with abstract art, including some big names and some others I hadn’t heard of. We talked a lot about most paintings and it was quite pleasant (much more so than dragging the spouse along). There was also a print exhibit by Gabriela Jolowicz which I really enjoyed. One of them is this [car backseat view](https://i.imgur.com/iHOIKy0.jpg) which is such a fun composition. The other one is even more fun, [two explorers looking from the cockpit ](https://i.imgur.com/Jb4f3Z8.jpg)onto the Caspar David Friedrich painting [Das Eismeer.](https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Das_Eismeer#/media/Datei:Caspar_David_Friedrich_-_Das_Eismeer_-_Hamburger_Kunsthalle_-_02.jpg)

  4. It’s Great Sunday today in the Orthodox Christian countries. It’s my name day, even though I don’t believe. The custom says we skew lamb and its entrails.

  5. My comment on a sub called nonpoliticaltwitter was automatically removed for being political. My comment described the experience of witnessing a bikini fitness competitor’s pre-contest diet. Re-reading the post, I cannot figure out which word or words would be on a banned list, which is somewhat indicative of the bot being tuned to be extremely strict.

Yesterday’s Birdlife walk had 89 club members take part. Despite this including 11 guides, I found it difficult to catch the species others were spotting, as the group spread out a lot. At the count at the end, I noticed I had spotted exactly half of the species the entire group had accumulated. But it was altogether very pleasant, and I find the veteran birder’s passion really inspiring. Despite not even knowing each others names, some people I’ve seen there previously came up and asked about my species count for the year. I’m happy about having 72 thus far, and impressed about some who are far beyond 100 already.

A photography store had pitched a stall with binoculars, spotting scopes and accessories at the end point of the walk. I am currently happy with my optics, but thought I’d be wise not to test any of the stuff they were selling: I don’t want to develop a nagging feeling of my scope feeling like a handicap compared to extra expensive stuff by Swarovski or Kowa. My current scope cost roughly 1100, the most popular model by Kowa sits at around 3400, and I’m willing to bet Swarovskis are even more expensive.

  6. Coachella sounds horrible.

Been scrolling Tiktok a lot and Coachella looks absolutely awful! If you’re not an influencer or a large company will pay all your expenses, It costs thousands (in USD btw) to get to a place in the middle of nowhere desert, hotels, tickets are extremely overpriced

Sure lots of the most famous names are there like Justin Bieber, Sabrina Carpenter, I think Lady Gaga was there last year.

If you’re not paying for a hotel you use their campsites (which u still have to pay) which have smelly porta toilets, dirty showers, you have to build your campsite and showering system. Literally paying to be almost homeless, sounds terrible.

Drinks and food are overpriced too, it’s so humid and hot, different stages are so far away so if you finish and want to see the next artist at another stage you probably might miss some of it getting there.

the entrance is far away, so extremely crowded you can’t really take good photos bc hundreds of people will definitely be in your photo. The list goes on and on. Who would want to subject themselves to this?

  7. Some time ago I was here wondering how a store that sells airsoft guns and equipment can have enough customers in an urban area of about 350-400k people to survive paying for rent at downtown. Now I found an even weirder store.

It was a brick and mortar store for a sculptor and architect???? What? Why does a sculptor and architect need a brick and mortar store? Like anybody is going to just walk in and be like “I need you to design a house for me, and now that I’m here, why don’t you make a few sculptures for the yard too”.

I’m sure an architect has enough business to pay the rent, but I imagine a lot of it comes via public procurement, SEO, or just word of mouth. Surely there are better places to have an office for that.

On the other hand, I was talking to somebody this past winter who owns a business downtown and they said they just straight up own the space the business in. So maybe the sculptor and architect doesn’t rent, maybe the airsoft store doesn’t either.

  8. I went to the Easter event. It started 8 minutes ago. I bought some Paska to bring home. Ive been walking around on a really swollen foot that’s been making me have pins and needles. I should probably go get this checked out tomorrow.

  9. Elections in Hungary today..lets hope they finally get rid of Orban.

Not that the other guy is much more enlightened, but he seems to be something of an improvement.. and Orban losing would upset all the politicians you’d want to upset.

  10. We have record high turnout, 66% as of 15:00, polls close in 3 hours

The bigger cities and Budapest suburbs are having the highest turnout, which looks like a good sign for TISZA
