Why you should speak up about sexual abuse instead of keeping it secret

  1. It’s not your fault – The abuse is not your responsibility. Keeping it secret doesn’t protect you; it protects the abuser.
  2. You deserve safety – Talking to a trusted adult is the only way to stop the abuse and get protection.
  3. Secrets can hurt you – Carrying abuse alone can cause fear, shame, and long-term emotional pain. Speaking up helps you start healing.
  4. Adults can help – Trusted adults, counselors, or authorities can take action to keep you safe and stop the abuse from continuing.
  5. You have a right to support – Silence doesn’t give justice or help; asking for help ensures someone takes your safety seriously.

Bottom line: Keeping abuse secret doesn’t protect you. Speaking up is brave, necessary, and the only way to get help and stay safe.
