I’ve structured this so it’s easy read and not a wall of text:

– Been at my company about 10 years

– Manchester based company with 3 offices UK wide, 1000+ employees

– Always saw it as a safe place with strong values, well respected, great team

– Thought I would be here for life until about a year ago

What changed:

– New leadership came in about a year ago

– Culture shifted, feels colder and less people focused

– Losing a lot of clients

– First time ever missing yearly targets

Redundancies started:

– First round hit a specific team, leadership said it was a one off

– Then more layoffs happened over the year, more quietly

– Start of this year, my team was put at risk

The process:

– Month long redundancy process

– We were basically made to compete against each other for our jobs

– 4 people let go, 8 of us stayed

– I ended up getting promoted to lead

The part that doesn’t sit right:

– Our previous boss, 26 years at the company, was made redundant

– No proper send off, just gone

– He was genuinely respected and people are still angry about how it was handled

– Long term staff morale is low

Where I’m at now:

– I have gone from being one of the team to leading a group that is:

– Angry

– Demotivated

– Still loyal to the old boss

– I don’t fully trust leadership anymore

– My new boss was close with the old boss and still let this happen which makes it worse

How I’m feeling:

– Mixed, promotion is good on paper

– But I feel overworked, uneasy and pretty disillusioned

– The place doesn’t feel safe anymore

Reality:

– Job market is not great right now

– Feels like I need to stick it out until something better comes along

Question:

– Has anyone else been in this position after layoffs?

– Did you stay and ride it out or start planning your exit immediately?

Appreciate any perspectives.
