I have a friend who's really more of an acquaintance since we never see each other outside of our graduate program. However, we are very friendly with each other and message sometimes on discord. It's like we are more than just acquaintances but perhaps less than friends due to not seeing each other in social settings outside of school.

This person seems very wise to me, and they are a few years older than most of the people in the program. For context, most people in our program are 23-29, and they are in their early 30s and are married with a kid. I really respect them for their work ethic, intelligence, and just general good nature. I've been going through some difficult personal issues that I think they would have some insight on due to their life experience, and I wanted to know if it would be socially acceptable for me to text them asking for their advice.

Thank you in advance!
