Last Sunday, Amelia Dimoldenberg interviewed Ethan Hawke on the Oscar’s red carpet. He got nominated to best actor for Blue Moon, where he is platonically in love with one of the characters.

Amelia: Do you have any advice for someone who also has a bit of an unrequited love theme in their lives?

Ethan: The one who's in love always wins. It doesn't matter if you get your heart broken when you're living, when you're feeling you are alive. You know, the sun doesn't care whether the grass appreciates its rays, it just keeps on shining. That's you

I mean, how simple yet awesome is this?

  1. Yea, that’s a great view on it entirely — once I chose to just give love and not “need” it in return (plenty of people reciprocate in their own ways, sometimes better than mine, lol), my life got a lot better!

  2. Love is the best feeling that no ones have it. The best example of love is Mom’s love. Everything else isn’t easy to find it.

  3. Oh I loved seeing this clip of him! Very wise words honestly. Something I’ve thought for a long time now. 💖

  4. Would somebody mind explaining this to me, i really want to understand but i dont.

  5. People are always worried about getting their hearts broken, but unless you die first, your heart will be broken. All relationships will end, so you might as well love freely.

  6. It’s a good one. Reminder to just live life how it aligns with your values and feelings without attempting to play an inauthentic role.

    There’s another reel I’ve seen:

    >”They used you”

    >Actually, they received genuine love from me while they played themselves.

    >Keep it, I’ll make more.

  7. I went through a horrible depression after my daughters dad left me for another woman and I met someone who told me something that snapped me out of it. She said you aren’t mad at him. You’re mad at yourself for believing this person was for you. And you feel stupid and wrong. The reality is that loving someone who doesn’t love you back doesn’t make you stupid. It makes you a loving person and that’s always the best way to be, even when it hurts.

  8. In college I was madly in love for years with a girl that I was 1000% convinced was my soulmate. We were close friends, often more than that and made some unforgettable memories together. Being in that situation brought me immense pain but if I could do it all over again, I would, not because I still have feelings for her but because I had a pure source of love flowing through me and because I felt alive. I was in awe of the depth and strength of the feelings I had for her and that is something I will never forget regardless.

  9. I have had this attitude since getting divorced myself. If the relationship is over, I wish you the best. I hope the next person makes you happy, as I did not. My former boyfriend, 69m left me and has a 30 year old girlfriend. I’m not upset at all. I thank god I didn’t waste more time on someone looking for something I would never be. I can see it bothers him that I’m not heartbroken. I think he is even mad about it. I find a little joy in that.

  10. Even
    After
    All this time
The Sun never says to the Earth,

    “You owe me.”

    Look
    What happens
    With a love like that,
    It lights the whole sky.

  11. I disagree. I rather just pour myself the love I can give than unrequited love for someone else. I’ve been there many times and it’s exhausting and pointless.
