Hey Reddit, I 39F need to know if this is “normal” or if I’m just overthinking.

Someone I’m dating 44M said their phone fell in the pool and was out of commission for over a day. The silence began right after I sent a message saying I saw something on Instagram that made me curious about where we stand.

Have you ever actually lost your phone and gone a day+ without contacting someone you were seeing? How did the other person react?

Also curious about thoughts on communication expectations while casually dating. We’re not officially exclusive, but wanting to know if multiple people are involved. The IG algorithm was really algorithming and I came across a reel then clicked on the profile. This person posted a video that was also sent to me by the guy I’m dating with the caption “I’ll bet there in less than 24 hours”. I myself have been in communication with an ex (broke up 2 years ago) over the last week. Conversations with my ex have not been romantic nor has there been any sexual contact but I have noticed my ex initiating conversation more, when typically he usually just texts to see how I’ve been and holidays. I was just curious about where the new guy and I stand to determine what kind of boundaries I’d like to have with others.

His normal communication is consistent texting daily. Phone or FaceTime every other day. We see each other weekly. About two months now. We have met each other’s adult kids. We make future plans, not too far out. He said he was going on vacation with his son and friends. He sent multiple pictures frequently with his son in them before this. He said would call me shortly after leaving the pool after going silent.
