I remember how there was a quiz in my country ( slavic country btw ) a while ago, where participants have to guess languages while listening random conversations.

And I remember how I knew majority of languages, but I was completely confused by Swedish and Danish. I was completely lost and couldn't point out that they are actually Swedish and Danish.

German was easy to guess, even when I had little knowledge of the language, also Dutch has a distinct sound that's not hard to recognize, but Swedish and Danish do have this weird intonation, especially Swedish that sounded completely alien to me.

Why is that and does anyone else feel the same?
