So, what is this thing with boyfriends paying rent for their girlfriends, seemingly as a 'gesture'? Last time I've heard of this was an influencer telling a story about her ex, and she mentioned they lived separately so would sleep over at each other's places a lot. She then mentioned how he never offered to pay her rent.
This, and a few other stories I've heard make it sound like paying rent for a girlfriend is a type of romantic gesture guys sometimes do in the US?
Is it something that's genuinely happening? How common is this and in what context would this be happening?
Important: I don't mean situations where one partner is struggling financially and the other offers to support.
