So, the name “Unites States of America “, does it come off to you sort of as:
- The United States named America, with a similar
ring
- to “Federative Republic of Brazil”, with a descriptor first and then “of [country name]”.
- The United States that are in America, whatever America may be in this context. Some people point to the landmass of the combined North and South America to mean “America”. So basically instead of “of [country name]”, an “of” that denotes location.
And bonus question, in your experience, which one is the case for other English speakers, like from the UK, Australia etc?
Edit: ignore the formatting nonsense the Reddit app is weirdly bugged.
