  1. While I enjoy watching the actual Olympics, I’m not super interested in the opening ceremonies. I’ll watch if my family wants to.

  2. It’s in the middle of the work day so probably not. Might see if I can stream it but it’ll be background noise rather than actively watching

  3. I just learned the opening ceremonies for the Olympics are this Friday. I won’t be watching, but I’ll definitely be tuning in for some of the events over the next few weeks.

  4. Yes, absolutely, along with as much coverage as I can over the next few weeks. Huge Olympics fans in this house.

  5. It’s funny, growing up, the Olympics were a big deal and my family would watch every night from the opening to the closing ceremonies, and we’d follow the medal counts and all that. I didn’t even know the Olympics were this year until last week. I may catch some events but I won’t be watching the opening ceremony.

  6. No but I’ll be watching Hockey when it starts. McJesus and Crosby on the same team will be fun to see.

  7. I had no clue that the Olympics were this year. On another note, I’m very excited to see family for the Superbowl this weekend.

  8. I love it when the Olympics are in Europe, it makes for perfect live viewing times.

  9. 100%. We did a drinking game for the Paris opening ceremonies (“drink every time they do something incredibly French”) and I got perhaps the drunkest I’ve ever been. This time I’m not drinking, but I still like to watch.

  10. The ceremonies usually make me want to gouge my eyes out. What fresh horrors should I anticipate? Though thank you for reminding me it was happening, I already forgot the Grammys.

  11. I always love the opening and closing ceremonies. The excitement and enthusiasm of the athletes. But unless I sign up for yet another streaming service I don’t think I’m able to watch it.

  12. Genuinely didn’t know they were happening already.

In the US, the sponsor/marketing avenues are really really tight. So if you’re not on cable, don’t subscribe to specific feeds, you genuinely won’t have had heard anything about them.

Even knowing they’re happening, I won’t watch. If there’s any stand out events, I’ll catch highlight videos later. I have 0 interest in the massive marketing/pr machine that is the Olympics media coverage.
