I think it's clear that most European countries have an opinion on the former German chancellor one way or the other…

From what I've noticed, it's pretty clear that even until today, Bismarck remains a really divisive figure who you either really admire or who you really despise.

Bismarck is admired for these things:
– His role in unifying Germany through war and diplomacy.
– His post-1871 peaceful foreign policy of realpolitik.
– His social welfare programs

But at the same time there are those who really detest this man for these reasons:
– He unified Germany, thereby creating the big country that (until today) calls the shots in Europe.
– He annexed neighbouring land (in the case of Denmark and France) through force and without the consent of the inhabitants of the annexed lands.
– Internally, he looked for scapegoats (such as the Catholic Church, the Socialists, and the Poles)
