I’ve just been reading the dad story of the bloke who lost his family in a house fire on Boxing Day. On reading the police report of the tragedy, it got me wondering why they always speak like this? Is it a legal thing, maybe? The copper said:
“They have been unable to get to the back bedroom due to the ferocity of the fire. The father has smashed his way out of the house through a bathroom window….”
Why would he not say “They were unable to get to the back bedroom due to the ferocity of the fire. The father smashed his way out of the house through a bathroom window…”
Odd.
