There seems to be some tension between far left protesters and Venezuelan emigrees in the last few days in the US. Most Venezuelans online or abroad seem to be celebrating his capture. It’s probably premature since the rest of the state apparatus is intact; there doesn’t seem to be any signs that the Venezuelan army is changing sides or at least all of it, and that is what matters most, not how Venezuelans in general feel. There is speculation that some one decided to stand down the troops in Caracas to let the specops helicopters pass through. And who knows what Trump might do next.
I do find it odd that that a lot of them have been calling for a US ground invasion for years though. Calling for a foreign invasion of your country is kind of unhinged even if your ruling party is wrecking the country. I wouldn’t call for the EU or the rest of NATO the US even if Trump went into full dictatorship mode because I don’t trust them at all.
Well hopefully Trump just wants the easy W and doesn’t actually send in a ground invasion that might get bogged fown with enforcing peace like in Iraq. I have a bad feeling the army and paramilitary groups will just fully devolve into drug smuggling gangs that will be impossible to stamp out the moment the government falls, even if many Venezuelans say that their country isn’t divided by religion or ethnicity. You just need an incentive and lots of people with killing as their best skill on their resume. Money is the best incentive.
