Why do I have to be age verified to buy 0% alcohol ‘spirits’?

Picked up a bottle of Captain Morgan’s 0.0 spiced ‘rum’ over Christmas and the guy at the self-checkout had to age verify me. Why? Legal oddity or Sainsbury’s policy? Fascinated to know.
