And do you eat them plain or mix them with other stuff? I think I enjoy them plain the most.

  1. I remember when I was in the Army we had them nearly every meal. To be honest, the Army sucks at making grits but maybe that was just the cooks we had. The ones during our cook outs were pretty great though.

  2. For me it happens in phases. Sometimes it’s one or two times a week or I’ll go months without.

ETA: cheese milk and butter baby…. It’s the southern way! Some people put sugar in theirs which feels blasphemous to me.

  3. Maybe once a month/once a quarter. I don’t eat them at home often but if I go out for breakfast I’ll most likely get them

  4. Never. They can be hard to find in my area, or at least used to be. Never knew they existed until our first trip to Florida when I was a kid. Was at a truck stop to get breakfast and my sister tried and loved grits lol. My mom had a heck of a time finding her grits when we returned home (Wisconsin).

  5. Going to get hate for this but never. Only had them once and not for me. NY asshole ik

  6. Daily, with salt usually, sometimes with black pepper also. Sometimes with a dash of paprika, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, etc. as well. Sometimes with butter.

    I’m from the deep south

  7. A couple times a month. I like mine cooked in vegetable broth with shredded cheddar on top.

  8. About once a week. Typically flavored with country ham.

Answers will vary significantly by region.

  9. I had it yesterday and today (leftovers). New Years Eve meal of steak and grits.

Before that? Maybe 5 times in my life.

  10. Maybe twice a month. If I’m staying with my grandmother, every single morning lol

  11. Grits are a southern dish–they are good with a little salt, pepper, and butter. They are also good when you add in cheddar cheese. Many people in the northern and western states will not have eaten them ever.

  12. Grits are a traditional, regional (southeastern) food typically eaten during breakfast but finds its way into other non-breakfast dishes like shrimp & grits.

So as a whole people in the us probably do not eat them much. However if you ask a native southerner then it ranges from weekly to monthly.

  13. I’ve never had grits and I don’t know where I’d get any in California.

  14. Grits are my favorite, I eat them very often! Cheese grits are my favorite but plain are good too

  15. I’ve never had them; I don’t think they’re too popular in California.

  16. Ate it quite often as a kid, far less as an adult.
99.9999% of the time, it’s mixed with butter. The trick is to add enough butter so it tastes good, but not so much that you turn it into gritbutter soup.

  17. 1-2 month. I make “cheesy grits” using parmesan cheese and a lot of garlic.

I roll the leftovers up into a log and wrap in foil or plastic wrap. It firms up nicely in the fridge. I slice this into “polenta coins” and fry it in a small amount of olive oil to use up the leftovers…it is soooooo good!

  18. Once or twice a week, usually with two eggs over easy. I add butter to them and mix in some of the eggs with each bite.
