Which UK traditions do you suspect are largely supported by the industries that benefit from them?

I mean, at this time of year there's certainly a lot of potential suspects to choose from, but throughout the year there are other events in the calendar, and what about the weirdly overpriced items that tradition demands you have at a wedding? Why do you need a cake that costs so much?
