Alternative title: How screwed am I?
Some background, I've been out of work for a few years now due to health issues. I'm early 30s, and rather heavily disabled in various ways. I want to find work, preferably something career-worthy, but there's.. a few too many restrictions due to my health and I'm beginning to think I'm doomed. Issues are as follows:
- Drivers License. A good 40%+ of jobs that I'm seeing that I have the skillset for require a drivers license for some reason. I'm unfortunately not able to get one, as my disabilities deem me a risk on the road.
- Qualifications. Most of my health issues started when I was in college, and quickly hospitalized me. As such, I've got no qualifications past GCSE-level. I can't afford to go to college, physically or financially, as it'll either put me out of work or overwork me and I'll end up in hospital again. This is a path I've tried before, so I'm speaking from experience.
- Health & Safety. I'm unable to work with food in any capacity, as not only do I have several allergies, I also have a skin condition that affects my whole body, primarily face, that could quite easily become a problem in any food-based environment.
- Work experience. Thanks to most of the above, all of my experience boils down to some form of entry-level retail, which stresses me out, causing more issues for me, and I desperately want to avoid a long-term career in this field.
Ideally, I'd want some form of office work, or something computer related (Software preferably, but I have years of personal experience with various hardware as well). Something not physically strenuous because, well, I am physically incapable of a lot. But almost all the jobs in my local area require something I simply cannot provide. I've been taking online courses to try and show off any form of skillset, but (thanks to feedback from several interviews) these simply aren't enough when competing with college graduates or further. Retail pays the bills, but it is taking its toll on me more and more with each passing day.
Any starting off points, any sites that have worked for people, or anything to point me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. I realise all I've listed make it seem like I'm just being picky or difficult, but in truth I am desperate. Thanks in advance!
