If you are interested in how a war zone sounds, do come to the Netherlands. Today, the sale of fireworks starts. It’s been a blast the last couple of days, but the next three days will put the average city bombing from WW2 to shame.
My wife and I have a yearly bet on how many dumb fucks manage to kill themselves (or someone else…) by doing fun stuff with fireworks. As this year is the last year in which it is legal to set off fireworks (finally!), we’re expecting more people who want to go out with a blast.
Man. I read too many sci-fi dystopian post apocalyptic books back to back and I am feeling a bit bleak. I really need to read something more lighthearted.
I bought onions and apples for the first time since October. We picked/collected so many of both in the wild that it wasn’t necessary to buy any. I have to say, the wild-growing apples are much tastier than store bought ones, although it should be the opposite. But it’ll do.
I somehow ended up reading the greatest literary work of our time again, My Immortal by XXXbloodyrists666XXX. I used the term “goffik” in a comment the other day and this word inspired to go read it. It’s so funny. My favourite passage in it has always been the following:
>Then all of a suddenly, an horrible man with red eyes and no nose and everything started flying towards me on a broomstick! He didn’t have a nose (basically like Voldemort in the movie) and he was wearing all black but it was obvious he wasn’t gothic. It was…… Voldemort!
It always makes me laugh out loud. But yesterday I absolutely lost it after I read: “We ran to where Volcemort was. It turned out that Voldemort wasn’t there.” Lmao. That’s so amazing.
I was looking through the spring program of the philharmonic here and noticed they’re playing Dvorak’s 9th. It’s my all time most favourite symphony, I love it so dearly, but I have actually never heard it performed. So I bought tickets to it. Very excited, I already know it will be such a great and overwhelming experience. Dvorak’s 9th is one of those where after every movement you’re like “damn that’s the bomb surely it can’t get any better than this” and then the next movement is even better.
I also bought tickets to see some new opera which had its premiere in London last year. It’s called Festen, based on a classic Dogma 95 movie. I’ve never seen the movie it’s based on, but going to see a contemporary opera is always exciting. We’ll see how it is. Last new one I saw, Alexander Raskatov’s Animal Farm, was super good. And the one before that was Kaija Saariaho’s Innocence which is goated. This has pretty high standards to live up to, I guess.
