Hi everyone,

I had a private medical appointment in the UK where the doctor didn’t provide a diagnosis or treatment during the initial consultation — we just discussed my symptoms and he ordered some tests.

He told me he would call me with the results, which he later did. I wasn’t informed that this call would be classed as a follow-up consultation, and I’ve now been charged an additional fee for it £200

From my perspective, the initial appointment was incomplete without the results, and the call was presented as simply giving me those results, not a new consultation.

Is it normal/standard practice in the UK for a results phone call to be billed as a follow-up consultation?
And shouldn’t patients be informed in advance if a charge applies?

Would really appreciate hearing others’ experiences or advice.

Thanks!
