Hi, I have a friend in Belgium who recently upgraded his iMac. Rather than selling it he kindly offered to ship it to me as a gift. My iMac died recently and I cannot afford to replace it for some time. His is from 2017 so isn't worth much second hand but was going to be a godsend for me!
Thinking he was doing the right thing, it is noted on the label as a gift and he insured it for me. It costed him 119 EUR to ship it from Belgium to the UK. However, he put down the value that he paid for it (1350 EUR) rather than '0' or a more reasonable figure of what it's worth now – I have therefore been hit with a charge to receive it of £263!!!
I may be able to get funds together for it but I can't afford to lose the money long term right now. It seems my only options are:
- Pay the amount and hope I can get it back after – but I'm not sure what my chances are.
- Let them return it and maybe try again with correct info… but I'm not sure if charges will be incurred by doing so.
- Ask them to dispose of it.
Any advise/ insight from others experiences would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
