I wanted to be a professional fighter, I had quite a few fights, but then my wife came into my life and I decided to work to help her with her college dream. Now that she has a stable job and we have a nice house, she insisted I pursue my childhood dream full-time. Next year I'll turn pro and that makes me very happy, a bit late but I'll achieve it and at least I have a good life

  1. I wanted to live in Istanbul and translate Syriac texts.  I’m not exactly close to achieving that.  I might even be doing the opposite, if that is possible.

  2. Well, my dream as a child was to get away from my family so I’d say it’s going pretty good.

  3. When I was 4, I wanted to be a dinosaur.

I got a degree in molecular biology, so I’m still working on it.

  4. Congrats man! Looking forward to hearing how it goes. I’m def. living beyond what I ever imagined as a kid.

  5. Any day now I’m going to come across a canister of ooze and turn into a Ninja Turtle

Jokes aside, I wanted to be a Disney animator my whole youth. Went to school for it and family/mental health issues derailed it plus I got burnt out creatively. I still make art for myself, get the odd commission and I’m happy with where and who I am these days.

  6. Honestly better than I thought. I started at 43 but I’m finally happy with something in my life.

  7. Wanted to be a writer i’m still far from getting published but i’m semi happy of what I write and the act of doing it as a way to express myself gives me immense joy. Actually lead to big changes on how I understand myself, relate to others and consume fiction. Helps with some ladies too

  8. When I was a kid, I wanted to be an archaeologist, then a virologist. I still remember doing my third-grade science fair project on the replication behavior of HIV… in the early 90’s. Boy, did that cause some issues with other parents.

Sadly, I never got to pursue it. Life got in the way, and I now work in the software industry. I don’t regret it, because it led me to my wife, and she’s been the dream I never knew I wanted.

  9. My childhood dream is to become a programmer. It’s probably never going to happen, though. The tech job market is super competitive, and I’m nowhere near good enough. I’m a fucking loser and a moron, and I’ll probably be homeless someday.

  10. My dream was to be a rock star. Have done a couple of European tours =) no fame though. Best of both worlds.

  11. I wanted to be a power ranger and a fire fighter. I was an aircraft Rescue fire fighter in the Marines for a few years so pretty close.

  12. Well, I wanted to be an anime protagonist. So … waiting on the tournament arc to begin at work so I can unlock my true power.

Anyyyyyy day now. At this point, id settle for a Gundam.

  13. I’m not the NWA or WWE champion but i have great friends and a wonderful family. All this to say, I should’ve retired John Cena

  14. When I was a child I wanted to be a super saiyan…my dream will sadly never be a reality.

  15. I had a couple of the usual dreams as a kid, like a baseball player or pro golfer. However my ‘realistic’ dream job was to get to sit at my house and play on a laptop with data all day. I had a buddy’s dad that did that and I thought it was the coolest thing I’d ever seen. I finally got my dream job about 4 years ago and I’m still loving every minute. I wake up, roll over and grab my laptop and make 6 figures. Most days it doesn’t even feel like work. Honestly couldn’t ask for anything more.

  16. As a kid, I looked at airplanes and didn’t believe I could ever fly one. At 35 l’m about to buy a second airplane in my life and l’m working on becoming an airplane mechanic. I guess it all worked out…

  17. I wanted to be a rockstar. I played in garage bands in jr high and high school and kept going through college, I did some independently booked van tours and we got a small deal with a decent label and got to do some bigger tours, I got to spend a summer on Warped. And then I started to run out of time and I lost control of my drinking and everyone started getting married and having kids and I went off to rehab and the band stopped.

I got sober, leaned into my job in IT operations and eventually product management, got married, had kids, and got comfortable with how far I took the dream. I have a bunch to nice guitars and my records framed in my office and a steady job and it’s good. I got on stage with the old band for the first time in years not long ago and it was great. I still haven’t gotten desperate enough for a fix to go hang out at open mics but maybe I’ll start a dad band or something sometime.

  18. My father is in his 70’s. He has requested for a long time that the song You Can’t Always Get What You Want by the Rolling Stones be played at his funeral. For a while, as his son, I felt a little insulted by this, but now as a father I get it. The things that children dream of are sometimes what they think is good or needed (other times these things are good like safety, food security, and love).

I guess what I’m saying is that if I told 8 year old me about my life there would be some overlap in what I wanted and what I got, but it’s all good now. I am married, working from home making good money, I spend time every day playing video games and watching videos on a computer, and next to my work computer is a 3-d printer that I use to build toys and comic book collectables that I share with my kids. I have a world full of people that I can talk to about comics and cartoons.

So I didn’t exactly get what I want, but when I try sometimes I find I get what I need.

  19. I think whatever childhood dreams I had got crushed out of me by expectations of who I should be by the religion I was born into. My childhood identity become the person the church expected me to be.

  20. I wanted to be a paleontologist. It never happened.

On the other hand my wife found a paper where 6yo her wrote she wanted two dogs and a chinchilla when she grew up. She’s wildly exceeded this goal.

  21. All but one are achieved. A motorcycle is still missing and I don’t think I’ll ever buy that either. The fear of shredding my legs or breaking my neck is greater than my dream of riding the bike.

  22. I wanted to be a Filmmaker.

    I *am* a Filmmaker.

The road is hard, as it should be, and I’m not the genius wunderkind I and everyone else thought I’d be, but I am. I’ve been a professional Film critic, an actor, an editor, a camera assistant, an art department crewie, and a small-time screenwriter who’s won awards for his work. I’ve also Directed.

Today, my girlfriend (who’s also a Filmmaker) and I are going to look at equipment packages for our next big project, a proof of concept for a feature.

Little me, Jeffy, would be very proud. We did it our way, kiddo.
