Hi all, hoping someone here has been through this.
I’m starting a new work-from-home job soon, and HR are asking for proof of my new address before they can update their system and send my equipment.
The problem is:
- I haven’t officially moved yet (moving this Sunday).
- My bank statement still shows my old address.
- My bank app shows my new address, but the PDF statement still has the old one.
- DVLA won’t let me change my licence address yet because Experian doesn’t recognise my new address.
- HR keeps asking for the new address “as soon as possible” and I’m worried I can’t produce anything fast enough.
My questions:
- Is it normal for proof of address to take time to update when you move?
- Do employers usually wait for updated documents after the move, or is this a problem?
- Am I responsible if equipment accidentally got sent to the old address?
- Is there anything else I can give them until my address updates everywhere?
- If I headed to the bank tomorrow after updating my new address on there can they create a new statement with my new address during the visit?
I don’t want to lose the job over something that’s literally a timing issue with moving house + bank systems not updating yet.
Any advice appreciated, thanks!

Cnt you tell HR you’re in the process of moving address and give them an estimated date, then go to the bank , physical branch and tell them the new address and print a fresh statement there and then. The online ones only get updated when the automatic monthly oners get generated.
Have you tried speaking to HR and explaining this? ‘I’m actually moving this Sunday so I should have all my proof of address bits sorted out shortly after that – I can send you proof of my old address for identity purposes, but please don’t send anything there’
Assuming this is a real job, they’re going to be pretty invested in getting this sorted out, and they won’t ditch a new starter at this stage just because your proof of address will take a few days longer.
Do you have an option of collecting the equipment yourself?
Can you use your tenancy agreement as proof?
Tenancy agreement or mortgage agreement might be the quickest ones?
Your bank can print your new statement and some like nationwide will also stamp and sign them
Have you given them your tenancy agreement? Thats proof of address.
Might be worth trying chat function with your online bank to see if they can help you
Update your driving licence online to the new address – it’s free and comes through quickly.
Some banks will issue a new statement straight away – call, don’t use the chat function to ask for this
