Specifically for an engagement ring that you wear all the time (and needs to fit even when your finger gets bigger when its hot but also to take off).

  1. You can get ring sizers online super cheap. Or just go to a jeweller and ask. Personally I’d rather go to a jeweller to make sure it’s fully correct as I know I’d probably get it wrong somehow!
You can find measurement converters too if you use a tape measure, if all else fails

  2. I got a really cheap ring measure set off Amazon! I tried to DIY using string and it wasn’t accurate lol

  3. My brother has a ring sizer.

I think my brother was just talking rings and he took it out one night when we were all over for dinner and both of us measured and got our ring sizes.

We talked about fingers getting bigger… mine doesn’t do that, whereas some people (like his wife) does. So it isn’t an issue for me/us.

  4. We went to a jewelry store – BUT if you want a thicker than normal band (2.5,3,4+mm) the band will fit tighter so you have to size up. I want a 3mm band and while I can wear a size 7, I want to get the ring in a 7.25 so it accommodates for the thickness of the band.

Also keep in mind once you add a wedding band, it also makes your engagement ring fit slightly tighter. So definitely try on multiple bands at once to get your preferred fit!

I also ordered a ring sized off amazon but it doesn’t have quarters sizes!

  5. Just for buying personal jewelry not even for engagement. But Amazon sells ring sizers for like as little as three dollars lol

  6. We measured using the paper strip method, still got it terribly wrong and had to get the ring resized because I have Scandinavian sausage fingers and not dainty Japanese fingers.

I’d say just take your girlfriend ring shopping for a normal gift, have them measure all her fingers then use that ring size for the big one. It may still need resizing because ring sizes seem to be a very uneven science.

Or, ask her what she prefers. Some girls like picking their own rings. We’re also doing the cheap engagement ring and then expensive wedding band that we will pick together so we have matching rings and I can make sure the ring is not too expensive because I think rings are a huge waste of money of you follow the industry propaganda.

A lot of girls also like to pick from small independent jewelers to get unique designs made by an artist they can connect to.

Make sure you **know** her preferences before you get her a ring. Does she even like diamonds? Does she like man made or natural ones? Natural ones are a part of the diamond monopoly system as well as often inhumanely sourced. Lots of women mind this, while others think you cheapen out if it’s man-made. Some might even hate diamonds and want something else. Or they want to ring shop with you as a bonding experience.

And is she hates cluster rings, **don’t get her a cluster ring**. I had no idea what those were until after I got engaged but lots of women hate them with a passion.

  7. We went to the jewelry store together and they measured my finger. We chose the ring and picked it up the next day.
