My [26F] boyfriend [28M] of three years hates when I use the dishwasher. We’re both Asian American. Growing up, the dishwasher for both was us was the “storage rack” as our parents didn’t trust the dishwasher. We bonded over this at one point when we were dating. After many years I finally convinced my parents to use it and I was surprised at how clean the dishes got. I started using the dishwasher more and when I moved in with my boyfriend I started using it.

At first he didn’t say anything but recently he got really grumpy every time it was time to run the dishwasher. We have a pretty small one (counter space size that’s from the previous tenant) and so it runs pretty much everyday. He grumbles and refuses to put the dishes into the actual dishwasher and wait for me to put them in because he refuses to use it.

I got into a huge argument with him basically yelling that if he hates using the dishwasher why can’t he wash the dishes? Then he just hmphed and walked away. And muttered something about it being expensive to use the dishwasher. Why does he hate the dishwasher so much? He thinks it wastes money but it really uses so little water then he says it uses too much electricity but electricity costs less than water where we are??

I’m really confused why does he hate the dishwasher so much??? We literally have been ignoring each other after dinner now because I run the dishwasher. It’s so weird to me.

TDLR: my boyfriend hates when I use the dishwasher. He hmphs and sighs every time I use it. Says it’s too expensive compared to handwashing. I’m tired of fighting him literally everyday on this issue.
