Cannot post this in the Stepmom forum because I am the “bio-dad” of two kids who live with us 70% of the time. My wife does not have any children. We are both 50 years old and the kids are 14 (boy) and 16 (girl).

I do the majority of the “emotional labour” and physical pick ups, drops offs when required, help with lunches, etc. so it’s definitely not a situation where I married for someone to take care of my kids. I love the and care for them.

My daughter (16) likes to spend time with me and this seems to bother my wife. Especially if she wants to come with me to the grocery store to pick up a few things gs. This is a big problem for her. She says that getting groceries is an adults role and that it should be her and not my daughter. She also gets upset if my daughter wants to get me something for my birthday or Father’s Day or Xmas.

My gut is telling me that my wife is jealous of my daughter. I do not think this is normal. And I am worried about our future. Especially a future where my kids may avoid me because they do not like my wife.

Thoughts from other couples in a step parent situation?
