Hi everyone! My family lives in UK and my father has sleep apnea. He just bought a ventilator (medical device) from India at his brother’s address. The price difference is £1000 compared to £2500 in the UK.

Doing my research I found out that I can be charged with 20% or more tax for items above £135. I also found online that there is loophole where if you are sending you private items they are not necessary taxable and you can value them to an arbitrary value since they are already used and are “personal”. But I also find that there is a system where the UK customs value the items themselves and tax you accordingly.

Do you know how can I import it in the uk as a personal item without paying tax? Which documents I have to be careful about? The items doesn’t have to be in the original box I can probably ask to take it off the box and do things like that. Also any recommendations of what courier can I use for that outside of the typical DHL, FedEx etc?
