Hi, I've been wanting to leave my work to go on a long travel trip, my manager said I have to give a weeks notice for each year I've worked here, being 4 years now saying, it's 4 weeks notice, but she can do 3. I asked her today with 2.5 weeks being my last shift, as next shift would be 3 weeks from now. Says it's a bit short notice.

Looking over my contract It say the Employer has to give a weeks notice for each year an employee has been there. Only other part related to me giving notice is this.

  1. Termination of Employment Should you wish to terminate your employment during your probationary period you are expected to give and receive one week’s notice in writing. Thereafter you are expected to give 4 weeks notice in writing. A leaver form must be completed with your Manager which list your leaving details for Payroll to complete the final documents and financial transactions. Should the Company wish to terminate your employment at any time the period of notice to be given to you is as follows:

It says expected, but doesn't mean I have to give 4 weeks correct?

It's my first long term job so I don't want to mess anything up as I need the reference after I come back.
