I should start this post by saying I don't drive so I go everywhere by foot and public transport.
Over the past few years but particularly within recent months, I've noticed countless incidents of drivers becoming far more aggressive towards pedestrians, including but not limited to:
-
Drivers pulling into junctions a pedestrian is already crossing, despite having had to already wait for traffic to clear to pull in.
-
Drivers nudging or rolling out into light controlled pedestrian crossings.
-
Drivers essentially guessing when the pedestrian crossing lights will change and pulling across or speeding through pedestrian crossings whilst the light is still red.
-
Drivers driving through time controlled pedestrian crossings that pedestrians are still crossing simply because they have the green light.
-
Drivers quite literally speeding up when pedestrians are crossing the road ahead with plenty of time to make a safe crossing.
-
Drivers ignoring the legal requirement to stop at zebra crossings if a pedestrian is waiting to cross.
-
Drivers occupying box junction pedestrian crossings leaving pedestrians no room to cross.
-
Drivers shouting abuse at pedestrians even when they're at fault or caused an incident.
-
Drivers mounting kerbs by several feet in order to jump queues, or to go around very short lived temporary obstacles.
-
Drivers parking fully on pavements despite nearby and on-road parking being available nearby.
So what do you all think? Driver, pedestrian, or both, do you think British drivers are becoming more aggressive towards pedestrians?
