How old were you when you first went to the gynaecologist?

26 after an abnormal pap with my GP.
18. I had to get my hormones checked (I’m okay!).

I assume this is asking for an American POV because in Australia you don’t go to the gynaecologist unless you need a specialist service. I’m 36 and I’ve never been. Our regular GPS do pap smears, prescribe contraception etc. here.
20 because I wanted birth control.
25. Because I wanted birth control pills
17 or 18
31 because I suddenly had extremely heavy bleeding.
19. Vulvodynia after SA. That sucked. I had a flare up for no reason a month ago, but I use lidocaine cream & estrogen cream weekly as needed, I have it under control now.
27 when I got pregnant
23 because I was having trouble with my birth control/period/infertility issues.
18 for birth control.
I’m 27 and I’ve never been. I’ve been honestly wondering if I should go since I do want children in the future.
14 for really bad cramps. I got on OCP’s then
I was 14, and sexually active.
12, I had started my period at 11 but then didn’t bleed for a year then bleed for like 2 months straight this along with my family’s history of uterine cancer was worrisome. I went on birth control and all has been fine since.
22, after I lost my virginity. I figured if I wanted to do adult shit I needed get over myself and let the dr look at my vag to make sure it’s all fine and dandy.
16 when I had horrible hormonal acne.
I didn’t get checked downstairs until I was an adult at 18, however.

I had a lot of issues with my period as a teenager and I ended up needing to go on birth control.
I was 15, and I had to go because I had mid-cycle bleeding and knew that wasn’t normal.
Thanks ovarian cysts!
14 I think, when my periods got too painful to manage.
Twenty six. I was pregnant. I’m in Canada and usually you don’t go to a gynaecologist unless you have a problem and you need a specialist. Regular checkups are done by your family doctor.
I was 15 and having a lot of pain. It was endometriosis.
I’m 24 and have never been so far
Around 14 and it was horrific.
16. I come from a country where healthcare is easily accessible and affordable.
My dad was convinced that someone needs to go to the gynecologist shortly after they start getting their period for the first time. So there’s me, ten years old, sitting in the waiting room with my grandpa knowing that some stranger was about to look at my goddamn privates and trying not to have a panic attack about it.
A nurse takes me into the exam room, looks at my chart, looks at me and tilts her head. “Why are you here?” “Er…my dad says I had to see the doctor?” “…uh. Are you having… problems? Are you okay?”
They sent me out unseen because I said I wasn’t having any issues and they told me to tell my father that he was fucking nuts.
Many years later, I actually had my first pelvic around my early twenties because I wanted birth control.
27 when I miscarried
16 to start birth control for irregular periods
First pelvic exam was at 16.
15
12 for the hpv vaccine like most girls where I’m from
I’m 27 and still haven’t gone! But I probably should because I suspect I have endometriosis or fibroids, because of my bad periods and unusual symptoms. But I feel that I can’t go, because my father insists on accompanying me to any medical visit, and anyone can know this is uncomfortable when the visit is for a lady problem…
