How do you feel about platonic male friends telling you “You look gorgeous today” or “You look hot” in social settings/at parties?

Flattered 😍
Grossed out and kinda mad. “You look great,” fine. “Your outfit/hair/etc is great,” that’s very nice! But words like gorgeous and hot are glaring red flags that he’s not after something platonic (unless he’s fully gay or he uses the same language for everyone, including his male friends).
“You look gorgeous today” – 👍
“You look hot” – 🤨
Depends on the friend and the friendship i have with them. If they’re saying it in a friend way and not me questioning if they see me as more than a friend, cool
I mean same as female friends
It’s cool, i know he really means it since he’s typically roasting me any opportunity he can get😂
Depends on the friendship. I have two guy friends who say that and I’d love it, and I’d take it as a compliment. Plus they are tight with my husband so that helps. Other guy friends say that and I’d feel icky. It really depends on the level of the friendship and how close I am with them, how our relationship is.
“u look hot” would make me want to go home no lie lol
Totally depends on the friend. I have a few male friends that I’d find this flattering from, but they’re the ones I’m closest with and we compliment and gas each other up all the time and I know for a fact there’s no secret agenda. One’s I’m less close with, it’d make me uncomfortable or make me think they’re looking for something.
Also depends on the compliment – “I really like your dress/hair/glasses” or “you look great!” would come across different than calling me hot or sexy.
Gross af, and it would be a block/cutoff/end of friendship because it appears there is one sided sexual interest
Depends on the relationship with the person. Different levels of friendship.
Depends on the guy, if he’s a slay-type of guy, thanks homie. If he’s the not-slay-type of guy, concerning
It can be a bit surprising when it happens, but I do like compliments.
They do, and they can. And I compliment them back.
You can tell in their tone, the way they look at you, their overall demeanor.
The intention always shows. Whether it’s friendly, or creepy.
I’d be flattered by the first. I think it’s inappropriate for a male friend to tell me I looked hot. I would feel uncomfortable.
No man that I thought was just my friend has ever only been my friend, they have always been waiting in the wings 😪
Depends. With some friends it would be uncomfortable, because they obv want something more from me. With others — we 100% just friends and would be, so any compliment is fine
Weird, gross, creepy. I purposely don’t have male friends anymore, but if I did, I would tell them that I don’t want any compliments based on my appearance. If they give any push back or break the boundary cut them off
As with anything else, context matters. If it’s a great, platonic relationship, I’d just take it as a compliment. If a girlfriend said I looked hot, I’d feel great about it. If I have questions about a guy friend and get the ick from a compliment from him, I probably wouldn’t be friends with him at all.
Damn! I use beautiful and handsome a lot, when giving out compliments, would this be in the same boat?
Flattered. The first part at least. The second comment doesn’t really sound that platonic.
Both aren’t platonic to me.
Gorgeous is okay-ish, but that would make me a bit uncomfortable. Hot is totally inappropriate.
I would feel like that was not platonic
I’d be fine with it and take it as a compliment, I’d know they didn’t mean it in a sexual way as they know I’m not attracted to men at all.
Depends on the friend, but most I hang around hype us ladies up like we do eachother in my friend group so I don’t mind at all. Im lucky to have a good group of friends, both male and female
You look great – ok
You look gorgeous/hot – only acceptable from a very gay male friend, otherwise bizarre in the worst way possible.
It’s definitely a compliment but don’t act any further and I’m good lol.
“You look great” 😁
“You clean up well!” 😄
“That *specific thing about outfit* looks awesome on you” 🤩
“You look georgous” 😊
“You look hot” 🤨
Really depends on the guy and relationship,
My gay guy friend I’ve known since kindergarten can call me hot as I know he has absolutely 0 sexual attraction to me,
A casual guy friend I don’t know that well calls me not and no thanks, (unless they are form a culture where that’s common and unsexual, (I’m multilingual and in some cultures that’s more common/accepted)
These aren’t friends they are thirsty men pretending to be your friend so they can hook up with you once you let your guard down.
Red flags.

Most of my platonic male friends are good friends with my SO. I think a few of them sometimes are more careful about being respectful and will “apologise” or clarify in advance to my SO before commenting on my appearance if it’s a particularly big compliment.
But generally I don’t think I’d feel any sort of way. Just a compliment… and I probably do look great lol 🤷♀️
i had a guy friend recently say “oh my gosh you look freaking adorable!” cause i had on a really cute outfit. we both have partners and are not remotely interested in one another so it made me feel nice! “gorgeous” would be a bit much for me, i’d prefer “pretty” or “cute.” “hot” is gonna be a no though. that’s just weird.
Fine with any of my friend’s compliments or criticisms as long as they are friends. Provided they aren’t grabbing at you or giving unwanted kisses.
