I’ve noticed that people often don’t keep eye contact with me during conversations. I don’t think I have an intense stare, I blink and occasionally look away normally, but in group settings people often look toward others even when they’re responding to me. One-on-one, they maintain more eye contact but still look away fairly often.
I’m wondering if this could be a sign they’re not interested in talking to me, or if it’s just normal social behavior. Like I notice a lot when we’re in a group and they’re mostly just looking towards the other person I feel like it means they want me to leave the group but then they still ask me questions and include me in conversation? Could there be something I’m doing that’s off-putting? Or maybe people just vary in how much eye contact they’re comfortable with?
Would appreciate any perspective on what might be going on or how to read this better.
I’ve just started uni, and this is something that has been bugging me when meeting so many new people
