I have noticed for a few years there seems to be this obsession with male height, particularly amongst the gen-z generation, constantly broadcast on social media, which I don't follow but constantly get algorithims for on youtube after viewing just one related topic…
I have noticed the vast majority of it, as in more than 50% of it, seems to come from the US. Endless street interviews of youtubers asking college girls whether they would date someone shorter than them, with the majority of them claiming no they wouldn't, or tiktok videos of girls, average age usually around 18, showing off there much taller boyfriends under then meme "i'm not into short guys", although this latter example could be a passed trend as I don't follow Tiktok and most of these I have happened across are a few years out of date.
I ask this as here in the UK this supposed disdain for any men below around 5'11'' doesn't seem to translate into reality, going to any high street or town centre and observing hundreds of average to shorter height guys with wives and girlfriends appears to disprove this. I'm 5'7'' and don't seem to have had many issues as far as I know.
I'm wondering whether this is more of a thing in the US or just a generational thing, Gen-Zers seem to be taller on average anyway than millennials. I personally think a lot of it has been born out of the toxic manosphere/Andrew Tate ideologies that have found there way into mainstream culture, as well as social media making it seem more of a thing than it really is, as so often happens
