I (35F)don’t know what it is. Sometimes I think my (75)mom might have ADHD or something or some type of anxiety. I have to be very careful with how I word things or I get triggered then she gets triggered and we both don’t know how to stop the argument. But sometimes I wonder is it a generational thing too. Today we were talking and I went over a recipe I was going to make over the phone. She’s listening carefully it seems then when I say green onion, she says, do you mean purple? And I pretty much got upset. Like…why would I accidentally say green if I meant purple. She’s like…I don’t understand green. And I tell her it’s not about understanding, it’s about listening. How can someone mistake a green onion for a red onion. It literally a whole different color. Let me explain it’s not really about the green onion.
She was at my house last week and helping me clean dishes while I cooked. I asked her to help clean some spoons for us. She says, don’t you mean forks? I decided not to answer her and just let it be and she cleaned forks instead and one spoon for me. It’s not the first time this happened. It’s like she has an issue following basic instructions. If I say go left she go right. It’s really interesting.
