I have a very close friend in his early thirties. I will put this out there now that me and this guy have been seeing eachother romantically for the last year but broke up because he felt like his drinking problems would weigh down on me. He’s been struggling to stop drinking, but since he works from home and the bar (that I work at) is walking distance from his place, he usually comes there whenever he’s had a rough day. All his friends are also bar regulars and when they hang out it’s always at a bar or club. His brother (who is my coworker) and I have been conspiring about literally forcing him to sober up because he is literally killing his body with all the stuff his drinking. He says he drinks because it numbs him.
He needs hobbies to replace his alcohol. His hobbies now are drinking and gaming. I suggested he starts going to the gym, but I was hoping that anyone could give suggestions that would maybe be similar in bettering himself both mentally and physically. Literally all the ‘healthy’ hobbies that came to my mind have all been rather ‘feminine’ (crocheting, meditation, cooking/dieting) which I doubt would be up his ally.
Please leave any suggestions because I am truly clueless when it comes to men’s hobbies. Or if you have any advice on helping a man going through getting sober.
