I am curious to learn what is done with this kids in different countries after hearing some stories from now-adults about how it worked out for them.
I'm not asking simply about kids who speak a language other than the school one, but rather natives of languages like e.g. English or French or German in countries/regions where that foreign language is introduced as a mandatory subject.
I heard from both a native English-speaker who grew up in Germany and a native French-speaker who grew up in an English province of Canada that the schools did nothing and just sat them in the class with the other children to learn colours and animals even though they were natives, I guess because at a young age they could not simply excuse them. I heard from another in a similar situation who was pressured by the teacher to therefore help other kids and being like a mini assistant, which they resented. I have also heard of cases where schools had different things in place for these sorts of kids, so it was positive.
I am sure if differs from country to country, city to city, and even school to school, but I am just curious to hear some stories and annecdotes, bith good and bad. Thanks.
