Fireworks are rightfully starting to become socially unacceptable, but…

It should now be common knowledge that if you announce a balloon release for your 23 year old relative who was "larger than life", "lived on his own terms" and "was just beginning to turn his life around" before passing away under inexplicable circumstances that usually involve a vehicle with administrative shortcomings; you will attract nothing but mass hate and vitriol in all local social media commentary for legitimate reasons concerning balloon releases, that I don't need to go into.

Why do people still do it? Obviously it involves total ignorance of the environmental problems of balloon releases, but how are people still so ignorant of the social consequences of that ignorance?
