I am a manager/Data Scientist on £45k. Been with company for 5 years. Things are really bad at work, poor team culture & management. It’s past the point of waiting out, as it’s starting to seriously impact my health.

I am in my 20s and with sole responsibility for bills.

I applied for some jobs & secured a contracting role which is slightly more senior, with the local authority. It’s about £15k more, but with the caveat of not having employee benefits like permanence/annual leave/pension etc. I’ve never contracted before and I suppose I’m not sure if it’s a great idea given the lack of stability. At the same time, I feel don’t really have much choice in waiting around for the right opportunity given the state of things at work.

I think given this role is more senior, it would likely help me secure better employed work in future? However any thoughts are appreciated, I have always worked on an employed basis and I’m not sure what salary I should be looking for if contracting to cover the pitfalls. I’m also not sure, of how naive I’m being here.
