What do you do on the first/worst day of your period to make it manageable?

The second day is the worst for me. I keep ibuprofen and a water bottle on my nightstand so I can take it as soon as I wake up since I usually wake up with cramps. I have an electric heating pad I use while I wait for the medicine to kick in too. Tampons + period underwear is my go to for heavy days since I have a backup if I’m late changing the tampon.
Order all my fav snacks ðŸ˜
Curse God
Weed, naproxen, heating pad, hot bath if possible (all of which, in combination, brings the pain down to a dull roar), and moving as many deadlines/projects as possible so I can take it a bit easy.
Second day is the worst for me, and I just take it easy. Ibuprofen or Midol as needed. Tea. A book. Comfy blankets. Soup. That sort of thing.
Take iron tablet, eat carbs, take a pain med, heated pad, lie down as needed, take break from gym. Mildly curse and realize why I was feeling tired/weak leading up to the period day.
Think the biggest thing is movement, exercise and making sure I eat well. This makes me feel physically better than becoming a potato. Ibuprofen for pain.
Eat a small steak
The second I feel that twinge in my abdomen I take two Advil and get the heating bad on my lower back. Then I get mean
Ibuprofen
Intermittent FMLA, an edible, and a loooooong nap.
Days 1 and 3 are the worst. While armed with lots of chocolate I just accept they’ll be a sucky days. Heating pad and aleve help if it’s too bad day 1. When I am exercising consistently it seems more manageable.
If your period is predictable, try to start taking pain meds before you feel pain (or as soon as you see spotting/etc). Chasing the pain makes it harder for the meds to work.
Overdose on Advils….
1 Tea
2 Snacc
3 Electric hot water bottle
4 Nap
5 Comfort hobbies
Some people exercise, I could never.
Also heard orgasms help. But… let’s just say periods aren’t exactly sexy times for most people lol.
Call in sick for the day and take ibu
Heating pad. Ibuprofen. Light activity to distract from the pain of manageable.
Make sure I have proper nutrition and isolate myself. I get super lethargic and irritable
Take painkillers *before* it hurts. Do all my chores beforehand so that I don’t have to do anything the day of.
I have horrendous periods where i basically hemorrhage two days and then it’s almost over. The first day I cramps severely all day and hemorrhage but I actually feel better emotionally then before I start bleeding. I meditate and read books and try and have a slow walk outside in the sun. Some light stretching helps and I try and eat fish and vegetables. It lessens the cramps…oh and I definitely take naproxen.
Not the day of but I take magnesium three times a day every day leading up to my period and it’s made a significant difference. On the first and worst day I drink some peppermint tea and put on an RPG podcast and find a comfortable position to lay in and spend the day drifting in and out of sleep.
Stay in bed if I can, try and get comfortable, pop as much ibuprofen that’s safe and hope I can forget how uncomfortable and in pain I’m in. I have PMDD and now in perimenopause, it’s ramping up it’s anger! I don’t welcome the peri fairy!
I always enjoyed a hot bath.
When all else fails, get tipsy.
Stay home shut the blinds
Am Asian. I take one whole chicken, remove the tail/ass, feet, neck and head.
Wash. And put it in a pot and boil it up for 2 hrs. The goodness of the chicken will seep into the soup and I will drink the chicken soup and eat the meat with a bowl of rice.
U can always throw in some celery carrots or corn.
I drink it as it is. The fullness of the chicken essence.
It always always helps. And that pot will last me around 3 days.
It sets the tone for the entire menstrual cycle, replenishes the qi, and hydrates you.
Good luck
3 ibuprofen. Generally that worked for me for the most ferocious cramps. Taken every 4 hours for a day.
Eat protein (steak, chicken, salmon), drink a glass of red wine, relax with a heating pad on my tummy.
Stay home. Heat pad. Hot shower. Move around as much as I can. Light meals. Lemon & ginger tea. All very helpful for me but YMMV.
My ‘worst’ day is going to be tomorrow; I’m all stocked up on foods I’ll be craving (saltine crackers, half a pepsi, mint choc ice cream, and healthier stuff: broccoli, dark chocolate, literally any broth, lots of fruit, the ingredients for this one tuna salad I really like, popcorn/popped lotus seeds, etc), got a heating pad, and am going to binge LOTR tomorrow. Brought all my crochet stuff in my room for easier access because I will not be moving from this bed unless I absolutely must.
I’ve tried most OTC painkillers and muscle relaxants and they just. don’t work. So all of this stuff will help a little while I rawdog my worst day. Gritting my teeth helps but it’s not good for you. Wouldn’t recommend it.
I’m very happy that it landed on the weekend, else I’d have to take a day or two off during the week
I just give up on everything until it’s over. Bare minimum at work and life + no social interaction. Ridiculous this even has to happen to us
