Hello lovely Europeans!
Ever since I moved to Germany, I’ve been curious about a cultural difference I noticed. I’m originally from Turkey, and one thing that surprised me here is that people bring their own birthday cake to the office.
Back home (and, from what I’ve heard, in many other countries), it’s usually your colleagues—or sometimes even the office itself—that provides the cake to celebrate your birthday. Apparently, in Austria it’s similar to Germany, where the birthday person brings the cake.
So now I’m wondering: is this common across Europe, or is it mostly a “German-speaking countries” tradition?
Thank you for your answers!
