I come from the tropics where it's 32℃ all year round. I was in Melbourne when it was about 12℃ and people wear short skirts! How did they do it?

  1. I went to Catholic school K-12 and wore uniforms that were skirts. You get used to it and wear tights.

  2. Absolutely I could wear short skirts in cold weather. The only problem was needing a coat or something to SIT DOWN ON because that’s where you get the serious cold. Girls were trained by dress requirements, even in 20below F weather, you wore a dress with your little cotton anklets and patent Leather shoes …… including to recess 2 times a day where you’re lock out in the cold. Older girls are freezing in their pantyhose with dresses, bareblegged. Girls get used to being cold. Why are New Yeaars Eve dresses skimpy things when it’s the dead of winter in many places. Maybe it’s early traing that “it’s better to look good than to feel good darling”.

  3. Tights/Stockings can keep the legs quite warm. And depending on where you come from 12°C can be quite warm already, not in the case of Australia though.

  4. I saw it the other way around (some years back) when i lived in a region in Germany where a lot of US soldiers work. When, in autumn or winter, a guy walked outside – wearing shorts and/or not jacket/ anything to stay warm – it was most likely a guy from a colder region of America.

Your body gets used to the temperature/ type of humidity (…) after a while. So, if you grow up in an area that has not “that” high temperatures/ sunny and warm days, you get used to it. Then the 12° C (that does not mean automaticly “winter”) feel like “chill but it is bearable” .

12 C in winter is (for me) quite cold – but to warm for snow, so it is okay. 12 C during summer (june, july, august) would be (for me) very cold. And during spring and autum, this is just the “typical” okay-ish temperature.

  5. I think it just depends on what you’re used to. I live in Central Europe and why 12C obviously isn’t warm, I can still stand to have my bare legs out without really getting cold.

12 c 😂 you’d be shocked to see the girls in New Castle (UK) or Reykjavik (Iceland) during the winter then

  7. I live in Colorado. We have 0% humidity nearly all year with some very rare >0% days. When the sun’s out (which is usually is), the air can go all the way down to 6ish degrees Celsius before we’d start getting chilly. I totally have worn a mini with a sweater and high socks/tights in the winter. All fine.

  8. Because during the winter everything is nice and heated indoors, and that’s where people spend most their time.
Same reason I bring a sweater with me during the heat of summer: people make it cold indoors

  9. Tights. I have several pairs of tights and stockings for when it’s cold but I’m feeling like a skirt.

  10. I simply wear high socks with my short skirts when it’s cold. Unless it’s full blown Swedish winter, a little bit of exposed thigh doesn’t hurt. And if it’s that cold I just put a coat on top. I love short skirts and I’ll be damned if I can’t wear them year round.

  11. My legs don’t really get cold. As long as my torso is warm and my feet are warm, I’m set.

  12. I am from tropics then mild weather but went to college on the east coast of US (where it snows). There was one day I literally could not fathom the idea of having to put on pants to go to class. I told my self I would always show up to class because the point ewd to learn from professors and peers not just read material. I truly considered not going to class because I didn’t want to wear pants (it’s was very cold but not snowing yet). I ended up mustering up an outfit with tights and a long top or some sort of skirt and a long coat to make it to class. The key is to keep extremities warm and the butt also needs to be covered. In my opinion the butt loses a lot of heat and a jacket vs a coat that covers the butt makes a big difference.

  13. I was in Hawaii, folks wore heavy jackets and in winter, I needed my jacket after 3 hrs there.

  14. I guess it’s relative. I looked up what 12°C and it’s about 54°F, very much a mild spring and fall temperature where I live. I would not be bothered having bare legs in that temperature unless it felt colder because it was raining or very windy. I’ve worn short skirts with bare legs in much colder weather – usually it’s if I’m only going to be outside for a short time, I have a warm coat, it’s a special occasion so I’m willing to bear some discomfort to dress up, and I’m probably drinking. Usually I would wear tights with a skirt in winter, though.

  15. Are they going to a club or just out and about? Temps in clubs are quite warm and the dancing Keeps you warm. It’s the run to and from the car that kills you.

I would assume it is no their outside outfit and you are seeing them in a transition between two indoor locations

  16. I wear fleece lined tights in the winter! Honestly some of the ones they make now are warmer than pants

  17. School uniforms played a role. But also not always having central heat. I keep my feet, hands and body warm enough. I’ve shoveled snow in that outfit. Kiwis don’t give a shit.

  18. Most people don’t wear skirts in the winter and hang out outside.

I wear a skirt and usually knee high socks and boots. I’m gold for three minutes walking from my house to my car, and then 3 more minutes from my car to the place I am going. It isn’t that wild. If I’m going to be inside all day/night, then who cares?

It’s the same as me wearing long sleeves in the summer. If I’m going to be at an air conditioned location, then the weather doesn’t really matter.

  19. Ask the sorority girls at my school it’s been straight up snowing last year and they were wearing skirts and high heels like superheroes I’m kind of in awe of them to be honest

  20. When I was in college in the late 90s we regularly went out in tank tops even in winter. We wouldn’t wear coats because there was nowhere to safely store them. This was in Upstate NY where 0° C was a heat wave in February. We did, however, wear pants, not shorts or short skirts.
