I have a good support system in my wife, my 2 best friends, and for most of the year, I'm able to afford tri-weekly counseling my mental wellness.

I take alot of flex and pride in saying that I know that no struggle I face has to be fought alone and in the dark (anymore).

  1. Tbh, I don’t do *anything healthy* right now.

I drink, I smoke, I do drugs, I sit in a desk at work, I eat pretty much whatever I want. I do try and eat relatively healthy – but a lot of that is take-out.

I go through phases where I will work out hard for a few months, get bored of it, and slump back into an unhealthy existence. I am currently in that stretch. Its been weighing on me heavy though.

Yesterday I built a mini-library (5 tier book shelf) out of some rustic barn boards for my little fantasy book corner – I am pretty proud of that. Its my little oasis.

I have a 9 year old daughter 100% of the time (single dad) that brings be tons of joy.

I haven’t had a healthy routine in months now though. FML.

  2. The gym is located in the basement at work. It is: nicely equipped, almost always vacant, and free.

  3. I recently decided that I am not my career or my status and if the guy down the street or someone I know makes more money and owns nicer things, I don’t give a fuck anymore.

My family and I have more than the vast majority of the people on earth. That’s enough.

  4. I managed to finally see the gym as something to look forward to instead of a chore. A very healthy habit for dealing with stress.

  5. I walk 35-50 miles a week (primarily weather dependent) despite my health issues – apparently doing some solid work to save the bones in my foot!

  6. I run 3x per week and lift weights 3x per week. And eat salad for lunch most days. And go to the doc twice a year

On the other hand, I do like to drink some beers once a week and tend to eat junk food on Saturdays.

  7. Started working out again with weights. For too long I waited to have space and funds to have what I had in school: a full weight room. Now I’ve got a mat and a kettle bell.

There was a time I’d travel to a gym, but I’ve finally accepted I just won’t if I have to get in the car and travel there.

  8. Not one thing, but a bunch of intentional choices: lift 3x a week, do cardio 1x in the gym, do yard/housework, target protein and fiber in diet, make time for intimacy and deeper emotional conversations w spouse.

I still suck at sleep. Might just be genetics but it can be frustrating.

  9. Consistent daily routine that keeps me in focus and sets the day up, and discipline when it comes to gym and exercising

  10. Stopped having 2 or 3 beers every day. Sleeping better, losing weight and being able to focus. Massive change

  11. 9 months alcohol free. Wasn’t a daily drinker or anything, just decided I’d had enough.

  12. I do my best to stay both physically and mentally healthy. I am a lot older now and have to eat healthier, limit my alcohol intake and take care of myself in different ways.

    * Playing ice hockey & roller hockey.
    * Coaching roller hockey and helping out with my son’s high school ice hockey team.
    * Go out kayaking with the fam.
    * Play tennis.
    * Go for walks/hikes with the Wife.
    * Go to Mustang meetups/cruise-ins/car shows and mountain runs.

  13. I average between 5-8 hours of cardio every week with running and cycling. I also only drink pure water 95+% of the time (don’t drink sodas or anything like that, no alcohol)

Outside of that I’m a complete mess though.

  14. Hey OP. 49 year old married father of two in the UK here. Healthiest things about me are as follows:

    – After 30 years of trying to drink myself happy, I’m nearly two years sober

    – I refuse to allow work to consume any of my sanity or peace. Over the past 5 years I’ve made the choice to expend the right amount of effort for my salary and try to enjoy what I do – nothing more, nothing less

    That’s it – I’m at peace and it’s wonderful.

  15. Don’t drink don’t smoke do 13k steps a day exercise twice a week my eating varies wildly but eh I’m working on that .

  16. I live in my RV traveling parks and forests, so I’m constantly hiking in unspoiled wilderness and taking in beautiful sunsets. It’s insane how much it helps keep the demons at bay.

  17. really cut back on the drinking.

i track all my expenses and from 2020-2024 we were spending on average of ~3500 on booze each year. i no longer wake up feeling like shit nearly as often.

managed to go 1 full year without booze, realized it wasnt for me, so day 366 i celebrate with a beer. now im maybe down to ~1/wk
